From Puerto Rico’s caseríos to a global cultural force: the story of a sound that refused to be silenced.
Directed and executive produced by Omar Acosta, the four-part series traces reggaeton through criminalization, resistance and worldwide ascent. The series features Bad Bunny, Ivy Queen, Karol G, Nicky Jam, Rauw Alejandro, Luis Fonsi and other architects of the movement.
Reggaetón had become global, but its story was often flattened into celebrity, charts and crossover success. The series needed to hold criminalization, resistance, authorship and worldwide expansion in the same frame.
A four-part structure paired first-person testimony with cultural and political context, connecting Puerto Rico’s underground scenes to the movement’s international reach.
The Peacock Original launched internationally in 2024, earned an 8.0 IMDb user rating and received a Special Mention at South International Series Festival.
TITLE SEQUENCE / DESIGN
The title sequence compresses the series’ movement from underground resistance to global phenomenon into one visual overture.
KEY ART / PLATFORM LAUNCH
The visual system extended beyond the series into Peacock’s mobile launch environment, carrying the campaign artwork through feature, channel and browse placements.
RECEPTION / IMPACT
The series paired first-person testimony from the genre’s architects with a historical account of criminalization, resistance and global expansion.
OUTCOME
Released as a four-part Peacock Original in October 2024, the series reached an international audience with commentary from Bad Bunny, Ivy Queen, J Balvin, Karol G, Feid, Nicky Jam and other central voices in the movement.
